Learning design / Anonymised adaptation

From playbook chapter to microlearning

Selecting and sequencing the content for a focused video.

I adapted the existing Sales Director Coaching Playbook into short video learning. The design moved from a long reference chapter to a focused explanation, with learning objectives, a scene sequence, narration and visual direction.

Learning purpose

Help managers identify the responsibilities and activities of a Sales Director, recognise the competencies involved, and distinguish leading, coaching and managing.

What I designed

I selected the essential messages, organised the explanation, wrote the narration and specified how each scene would communicate the content. The video introduced the topic and directed the manager back to the playbook for deeper guidance.

Selected storyboard sequence

The sequence below condenses the original design for the opening chapter. These are adapted design notes, rather than screenshots of the released video.

01 · Establish the purpose

On screen and visual direction

A clear title followed by the manager's core responsibilities. Reveal the key points in step with the explanation.

Narration and progression

Introduce the role and explain what the viewer will take away. Move from the overall purpose to the responsibilities that make it concrete.

02 · Make responsibilities concrete

On screen and visual direction

Group the key activities and competencies so the viewer can connect the role with everyday work.

Narration and progression

Explain how the activities support the responsibilities, rather than simply reading a list. Keep detailed reference material in the source chapter.

03 · Distinguish leading, coaching and managing

On screen and visual direction

Present the three roles as separate, related elements. Use a concise comparison to reinforce their different purposes.

Narration and progression

Explain the distinction, recap the main points and direct the manager to the relevant playbook chapter.

Develop the series coherently

The same approach extended across leadership, coaching, performance management, forecasting, recruitment, management cadence and tools. Each video connected a focused explanation with the fuller reference material.

Anonymised adaptation of my original learning design and storyboard. Organisation-specific material and internal processes are omitted. The source playbook was an existing team resource.
