Findings and gap analysis
Turning reported practices into development priorities.
I compared recurring themes from the team interviews with practices described by nominated high performers and with existing sales-leadership guidance. The comparison identified opportunities for greater consistency while recognising strengths in communication and collaboration.
| Focus area / aggregated finding | Desired practice | Potential contributing factors |
|---|---|---|
| Forecasting / Approaches and update habits varied. Some updates depended on manager prompts. | Use customer evidence and qualification criteria to review forecasts proactively. | Different levels of experience; unclear shared expectations; incomplete customer information. |
| Pipeline management / Prioritisation and the balance of current and future opportunities varied. | Build and review a balanced pipeline, with deliberate prospecting and realistic next steps. | Competing short-term demands; inconsistent working routines and tool use; opportunity availability. |
| Discovery / Preparation and questioning varied in depth and structure. | Research the customer, explore business needs and confirm understanding before proposing a solution. | Different preparation habits; uncertainty about questioning approaches and role boundaries. |
| Objection handling / Responses were not consistently proactive or planned. | Anticipate likely concerns, explore their underlying causes and draw on relevant expertise. | Limited preparation for complex objections; uneven experience and confidence. |
| Deal closure / Planning, stakeholder involvement and contingency approaches varied. | Agree a customer-aligned close plan, clarify decision steps and identify risks early. | Inconsistent planning routines; complex approval processes; delays outside the Account Executive's control. |
