Supporting sample 3 · Portfolio recreation with a fictional scenario
Designing practice that transfers to work
This sample recreates the design pattern of simulated planning, application to a real opportunity and reflection. The scenario and review prompts below are newly authored for the portfolio; they are not an original client exercise or a delivered course screen.
The fictional situation
A software-services customer wants a faster implementation while keeping the original scope. The Account Executive needs to prepare a discussion with the customer and agree how their own manager will support them.
The learner task
- State the intended outcome and identify the information still needed.
- Map the people involved and agree who will lead, support and make decisions.
- Identify the constraints and possible trade-offs to explore.
- Prepare questions that test assumptions about the customer’s priorities.
- Set out the next conversation and the support needed from the manager.
Feedback and reflection
Use the completed plan to discuss whether the learner has made assumptions visible, clarified responsibilities and considered the consequences of the available options. These are proposed portfolio review criteria, not a claim about a rubric implemented in the released programme.
After practising, the learner explains what changed in their plan, why it changed and what they would do before their next real customer conversation. The same planning structure can then be applied to a live opportunity.
What to notice
The activity creates something a learner can discuss and improve. It links preparation, manager support and reflection rather than relying only on recall questions.
